Why The Total Lunar Eclipse of July 2018 Will Be The Most Life Impacting Celestial Event Of The Year
The blood moon 2018 (which happens on July 27) will be the longest total lunar eclipse this century. This type of lunar eclipse is referred to as a blood moon because of the reddish hue that surrounds the moon, and historically, it’s prompted conspiracy theorists to attribute it to the apocalypse, Express UK reported.
The eclipse will take place from 6:24 p.m. UTC (2:24 p.m. ET) and 10:19 p.m. UTC (6:24 p.m. ET). The event will begin with a partial eclipse until around 7:30 p.m. UTC before the skies are graced with the especially long total eclipse,” which will last almost two hours. The July 27 total lunar eclipse is so long because the “full moon and July lunar apogee — the moon’s most distant point from Earth in its monthly orbit — both fall on the same date. The July 2018 full moon showcases the most distant and smallest full moon of the year.”
